The Royal Canadian Regiment is Canada’s
oldest regular infantry regiment. “A” Company was raised in Fredericton in 1883,
B Company in St. John’s (Quebec) and C Company in Toronto (Ontario). The
Regiment was first known as the Infantry School Corps, and featured a beaver on
their helmet plates, belt buckles and collar insignia. During its early years,
the Regiment went through a number of name changes. In 1893 Queen Victoria
granted title approval for “The Royal Regiment of Canadian Infantry”, which in
1901 was shortened to “The Royal Canadian Regiment” This brass swagger stick
tip,with the King’s Crown and VRI cypher, was found under the Guard House on
Carleton Street in the 1960s.

Le Royal Canadian Regiment est le plus ancien régiment d'infanterie
régulier du Canada. La compagnie « A » fut créée à Fredericton en 1883, la

(Ontario). Le Régiment a d'abord été connu sous le nom de l'École d'infanterie
de la compagnie "A", et comportait un castor sur leurs plaques de
casque, boucles de ceinture et insignes de col. Au cours de ses premières
années, le régiment a connu un certain nombre de changements de nom. En 1893,
la reine Victoria a accordé l'approbation du titre pour « Infantry School
Corps », qui en 1901 a été raccourci à « Royal Canadian Regiment ».Cette
pointe de baguette en laiton, ornée de la couronne du roi et du chiffre VRI, a
été trouvée sous le corps de garde de la rue Carleton dans les années
1960.
