This hooked mat was hand-crafted by Lance
Corporal Olaf Schonberg, as part of his post-Second World War hospital
rehabilitation. Corporal Schonberg contracted tuberculosis while serving in
Italy with the Royal Canadian Regiment in 1944. He spent five years in various
sanitoriums in Canada, but was never able to fully recover his health.

Ce tapis en crochet a été fabriqué à la main par le caporal Lance
suppléant Olaf Schonberg, dans le cadre de sa réadaptation médicale après la
Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le caporal Schonberg a contracté la tuberculose alors
