This medal was issued to Drill Sergeant
Herbert T. Brewer of the Royal Canadian Regiment, for 20 years of Long Service
& Good Conduct. Herbert T Brewer (1864-1942) began his military career as a
Private with the Infantry School Corps in Fredericton, rising to the rank of
Regimental Sergeant Major with 3rd (Special Service) Royal Canadian Regiment in
Halifax. During the First World War the Brewers lived in the Carleton Street
Armoury, where Herbert served as caretaker. All five of his sons volunteered
for duty in that war.
